Coimbatore. German passenger car company Volkswagen plans to introduce electric vehicles ie EVs in the Indian market in the year 2025-26. A company official gave this information on Saturday.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars India Ltd. Director (Brand) of Ashirsh Gupta said in Coimbatore that the company is the leading electric vehicle manufacturer in the western markets. At present, the market share of such vehicles in India is only 0.5 per cent. He said the company expects the market share of electric vehicles in India to grow to more than five per cent by 2025-26.

2020 has been a very sluggish year for the car industry
When asked about the impact of the Kovid-19 epidemic on the car industry, he said that the year 2020 has been very sluggish. But it picked up pace from October onwards. It increased by 45 per cent during January-March in the current year.
Volkswagen hikes prices of Polo and Vento
Amid rising input costs, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India on September 3 said that the prices of its flagship models Polo and Vento have increased with effect from September 1, 2021. The prices of the Polo and Vento models will see a hike of up to 3 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively. The price hike will not be applicable on the GT variant of the Polo Carline. Customers who have booked their vehicles till August 31, 2021 have been kept away from the hiked prices due to Volkswagen’s commitments.
