Dubai. The second leg of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is to begin in the UAE from September 19. Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ veteran batsman Steve Smith believes that if his team wants to make it to the final of the IPL, then it will have to play its best cricket in the second leg of this T20 tournament. In April-May this year, the tournament was postponed after several players and support members were infected in the IPL bio-bubble amid rising cases of Kovid-19 in India.
Before the league was suspended, Delhi team performed brilliantly and won 6 of their first 8 matches, amassing 12 points and are at the top of the table. Smith believes that the Delhi team, captained by Rishabh Pant, has the potential to perform even better in the second leg of the IPL to be played in the UAE from September 19 to October 15.

Former Australia captain Smith said, ‘We have to start our campaign from where we finished in the first leg. We were playing really good cricket and we got good results from it. I think we can do even better so we should play our best cricket in the second leg of the tournament. Delhi Capitals team will start its campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second phase of IPL from 22 September.
In a statement issued from Delhi Capitals, the 32-year-old said, ‘You have to play very well to reach the final, but hopefully we will be able to play our best cricket in the final.’ He said, ‘The team will definitely have to regroup itself for the IPL. It’s been a few months since we played together, so we have to prepare again. We have a great team and we also have Shreyas Iyer, who makes the team even stronger. He is a great player and it is good to see him come back.
