New Delhi . Retail sales of passenger vehicles increased by 39 per cent year-on-year to 2,53,363 units in August. Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), an organization of vehicle dealers, has given this information. Passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,82,651 units in August 2020.
Two-wheeler sales rose seven per cent to 9,76,051 units in the month under review as against 9,15,126 units in the same month a year ago.
During this period, sales of commercial vehicles stood at 53,150 units with a jump of 98 percent. In August, 2020, this figure was 26,851 units. Three-wheeler sales during this period increased by 80 percent to 30,410 units as against 16,923 units in the same month a year ago.

Total vehicle sales across categories increased by 14 per cent to 13,84,711 units in August. The total vehicle sales in August 2020 stood at 12,09,550 units.
Sales increased by 45 percent in July
Wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in India increased by 45 per cent to 2,64,442 units in July from 1,82,779 units in the same month last year. According to new data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), wholesale sales of two-wheelers declined by two per cent to 12,53,937 units in July from 12,81,354 units in the same period a year ago.

The sales of motorcycles last month stood at 8,37,096 units as against 8,88,520 units in July 2020, i.e. a decrease of 6 percent. The sales of scooters increased by 10 percent from 3,34,288 units in July 2020 to 3,66,292 units in July this year. Similarly, sales of three-wheelers increased by 41 per cent to 17,888 units last month from 12,728 units in the same month a year ago.
Total sales across all categories except commercial vehicles stood at 15,36,269 units as compared to 14,76,861 units in July last year. However, the auto industry is grappling with chip shortage. So production and sales are getting affected. In the coming days, the supply of chips will also affect the auto industry. However, companies are constantly trying to overcome the shortage of chips. Companies hope that soon the chip shortage will go away.
