New Delhi. Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu has advised to make the presence of MPs the basis for nomination to Parliamentary Committees. This is the first time that the Rajya Sabha Secretariat has sent a raw sheet to the leaders of all the parties regarding their attendance in the meetings of the committees of their MPs in the last one year. There are 32 parties, independents and nominated members in the 243-member Rajya Sabha.
Venkaiah Naidu has been assessing the attendance of Rajya Sabha MPs in the committee meetings for the last 3 years. He had directed the chairpersons of all the committees to ensure at least 50 percent attendance in every meeting. The result has been great. Nominations of committees are held in September every year, in which there are 16 Lok Sabha and 8 Rajya Sabha committees. Of these, 20 are members of Lok Sabha and 11 are members of Rajya Sabha.
