Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday submitted his resignation to the King of Malaysia. Earlier, he had admitted that he did not have the support of the majority needed to govern. Science Minister Khairi Jamaluddin wrote on Instagram, “The cabinet has submitted its resignation to the king”. Yasin took office less than 18 months ago. A political crisis has also arisen in the country already battling the global pandemic Corona virus.
The government fell after several MPs withdrew support from the United Malay National Organization (UMNO), the largest party in the ruling coalition, and the resignation of two UMNO ministers.

According to the Malaysian constitution, if the prime minister loses his majority, he must resign. Shah appoints him as the new leader whom he thinks will win a vote of confidence in Parliament.
After the resignation of Muhyiddin Yasin, the leaders have started the struggle for the top post. Deputy PM Ismail Sabri has extended support to replace Yasin and retain the government. Yasin’s resignation comes at a time when his government is being criticized for not handling the Corona epidemic properly. Malaysia has the highest infection rate and death rate in the world. Even after seven months of emergency and the lockdown implemented from June, more than 20 thousand cases of corona are being reported every day this month. This has put a lot of pressure on the health system.
