New Delhi. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) chief advisor David Hussey said that the team’s injured all-rounder Andre Russell is likely to play in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). Hussey is not worried about the failure of the KKR middle order batsmen. Despite the failure of the middle order, KKR beat Delhi Capitals by three wickets. Russell, who is suffering from a hamstring injury, has been out of a few matches but could play the final against Chennai Super Kings.
Hussey said in the press conference after the victory over Delhi, “If he was bowling before the match against Delhi, he could play.” Russell has a tremendous record against Chennai. In the first leg of IPL 2021 in India, this batsman played an explosive innings of 54 runs in 30 balls against CSK. However, KKR lost this match by 18 runs. Apart from this, Russell played an innings of 88 in 36 balls against CSK in 2018 and 58 in 25 balls in 2014.
Chasing an easy target of 136 runs, KKR lost six wickets within seven runs in 3.5 overs. Rahul Tripathi gave the team victory by hitting a six in the fifth ball of the last over. Hussey said, “I am not worried about the failure of the middle order because they are all great players. They know how to play. We are going to Dubai with full confidence and no one knows what could happen.”
He said, “All the credit goes to the captain of KKR, Eoin Morgan. We have full faith in him. Dinesh Karthik and Shakib Al Hasan will also play the next match. He has won matches many times for his country and also for the IPL team. Head coach Brendon McCullum will face a tough selection problem.” Hussey praised Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill. “We have got a great player in Venkatesh Iyer. He is a wonderful person and ‘team man’. He and Gill shared a good partnership and they had a great rapport.”
