New Delhi. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, several major decisions were taken for the auto, telecom and drone sectors. Under this, while taking steps towards making India a drone hub by 2030, the Center has approved the Production Linked Incentive (PLI Scheme) for drones and drone components. At the same time, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday that we are estimating an investment of about Rs 5,000 crore in the manufacturing segment of drones in the next three years. This will create about 10 thousand employment opportunities. This will revolutionize the sector.
Drone industry to be worth $1.8 billion by 2026
Scindia said, “PLI will do business of Rs 900 crore from drone manufacturing in the next three years. We are projecting that the drone industry will be worth $1.8 billion by 2026.
Approval of PLI Scheme for Drone Sector
Significantly, while giving information about the decision of the cabinet, Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur had said on Wednesday that the government will spend Rs 120 crore in the next three years for the Drone PLI scheme. This amount is twice the total business of all drone companies in India in the financial year 2020-21. Under the plan, companies making drones will be given incentives on the basis of production capacity in the next three years.
For manufacturers of drones and drone components, the incentive will be 20 per cent of the value addition made by them. The central government has decided to keep the PLI rate of drones at 20 percent for three years.
