Srinagar. A probationary sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police was shot dead by a terrorist on Sunday in Khanyar area of old Srinagar city in Jammu and Kashmir. According to a CCTV footage of the incident, the terrorist fired at Arshid Ahmed at least twice from behind and injured him. Ahmed, a resident of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, was immediately rushed to SKIMS hospital in Soura, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officials said that the incident took place at around 1.35 pm in a market in Khanyar. The area has been cordoned off and the search is on to nab the attackers. Meanwhile, police and CRPF officials paid tribute to police officer Arshid Ashraf in a wreath laying ceremony.

On this occasion, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh expressed grief over the martyrdom of the young officer and said that the terrorists involved in the incident would be caught soon.

He said, ‘We have lost a brave young officer. He was learning the nuances of policing. This is a very sad loss for us and his family. We express our deepest condolences. The criminals involved in this case have been identified and they will be brought to justice.

Mehbooba Mufti tweeted, “Sad to hear about the death of J&K Police Sub Inspector Arshid Ahmed killed by terrorists in Khanyar today. May his soul rest in peace and condolences to his family.
Abdullah tweeted, ‘Sad to hear about the death in line of duty of J&K Police Sub-Inspector Arshid Mir in a dastardly attack in the heart of Srinagar city. A young life with so many promises, another bereaved family. May Allah give Arshid a place in paradise.’
