Airports of Deoghar, Dumka, Bokaro, Giridih and Dhanbad have been included in this project. Under this scheme of the Jharkhand government, electricity will be generated from solar plants at these airports. These five airports are expected to start generating electricity from February next year. Permission has been given for selection of agency for setting up solar plant here. The objective of this scheme of the state government is to make airports self-sufficient in terms of energy requirements.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed to increase the production of solar power in Jharkhand. The government is also going to bring a solar energy policy soon. In this, people will be given grants for setting up solar plants. However, the schemes of the Center are also operating, in which the Center and the states are giving grants together. The blueprint for developing Giridih as a solar city has also been prepared.
Jharkhand New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (JAREDA) Project Director Vijay Kumar Sinha said that solar power plants will be installed on the vacant land of all the five airports. Each plant will produce 600 kW of energy. In this way, three MW of solar power will be produced from these airports. All will be connected to the grid. Airports will be able to produce energy locally for their needs.

About Rs 12.25 crore will be invested on setting up ground mounted solar plants at the five selected airports. One plant is estimated to connect 20 local families. These can be added to the maintenance work.
