Prime Minister Ardern said that the attacker was a Sri Lankan national, who was under the influence of the Islamic State group. He told that he was on the radar of the security agencies of the country and he was being monitored round the clock.

PM Ardern said that according to the law, this person was not allowed to be kept in jail. He said that of those who were stabbed, three were seriously injured. He said, “It was a violent attack. It was a stupid attack. I am very sorry that this happened.” The Prime Minister of New Zealand said, “I can not even imagine how everyone present there and who saw this terrible incident how they would feel after this. But thank you for coming forward to help the injured.”
