New Delhi. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Eoin Morgan has termed his team’s bowlers as ‘superstars’. Morgan said that the unmatched performance of the bowlers in the last two matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) enabled his openers to play freely. KKR restricted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for only 92 runs in their first match after the resumption of IPL and then allowed Mumbai Indians to score only 155 runs.
Opener Venkatesh Iyer played an unbeaten 41 in the first match and a useful 53 in the second match as KKR moved into the top four of the points table. Morgan said in a post-match press conference, “I don’t think any one player has changed the landscape of the team. I believe in the last two matches we have had superstar bowlers. He bowled really well here and in Abu Dhabi on favorable wickets to bat.
He said, “I believe this allowed our opening pair of Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer to play their natural game.” Morgan also praised Iyer for his impressive batting. He said, “I think Venkatesh played such an innings today which you can equate to a player who played 50 IPL matches. The way he batted is really great. He is very impressive for a top-order batsman.”
However, even after the victory, Kolkata has suffered a big loss. Team captain Eoin Morgan has been fined Rs 24 lakh for slow over rate in the match against Mumbai. Kolkata’s team violated the IPL’s Code of Conduct for the second time in this season related to the minimum over rate. That is why such a huge fine has been imposed on Captain Morgan. This was informed by issuing a statement on behalf of IPL.
