According to the data released on Wednesday by the National Crime Records Bureau, in India in 2020, an average of 80 murders took place every day and a total of 29,193 people were murdered. Uttar Pradesh has topped the list of states in this matter of NCRB, which comes under the Union Home Ministry. According to the data, there was an increase of one percent in murder cases as compared to 2019. In 2019, there were an average of 79 murders per day and a total of 28,915 murders. At the same time, there has been a decrease of 19 percent in the cases of kidnapping in 2020 compared to 2019.
Statistics show that 84,805 kidnapping cases were registered in 2020 while 1,05,036 cases were registered in 2019. According to the data, 3779 cases of murder were registered in Uttar Pradesh in 2020. After this, 3,150 cases of murder were registered in Bihar, 2,163 in Maharashtra, 2,101 in Madhya Pradesh and 1,948 in West Bengal. 472 cases of murder were registered in Delhi in 2020. Last year, a lockdown was imposed in the entire India including the national capital due to Kovid-19.

According to NCRB data, 38.5 per cent of those killed last year were in the age group of 30-45 years while 35.9 per cent were in the age group of 18-30 years. Statistics show that 16.4 per cent of those killed were in the age group of 45-60 years and four per cent were above 60 years of age while the rest were minors.
Statistics show that in 2020, the highest number of 12,913 kidnapping cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh. After this, 9,309 cases of kidnapping were registered in West Bengal, 8,103 in Maharashtra, 7,889 in Bihar, 7,320 in Madhya Pradesh. As per the data, 4,062 cases of kidnapping have been registered in the national capital. The NCRB said there were 88,590 victims in 84,805 kidnapping cases in the country. He told that most of them i.e. 56,591 victims were children.
