New Delhi. Hyundai Motors has officially launched its newest and smallest SUV, the Casper. This micro SUV will be the smallest in the company’s global portfolio and will be positioned below the Venue. The automobile will first be sold in Korea, then in India by 2022, this car will be introduced with a different name, which will compete with cars like Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
In terms of design, the Hyundai Casper is based on the K1 compact car platform, which is also used by the Santro and Grand i10 Nios. The car has a wheelbase of 2,400 mm and measures 3,595 mm in length and 1,595 mm in width. The car gets retro-themed styling with round headlamps at the bottom and LED DRLs at the top, while the rear bumper gets faux silver skid plates and jewel-themed LED lights. The car is designed to look like a 3-door micro-SUV with hidden door handles in the C-pillar and also gets roof rails and stylish dual-tone alloy wheels.

Engine and performance
The Korean-spec Hyundai Casper is powered by a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated MPI engine that generates 85 horsepower, and a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine that produces 99 horsepower. The car is expected to get both manual and automatic transmission options. It will be interesting to see what engine options are available in the Indian market. A 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, as well as a 1.1-litre 4-cylinder engine from the Santro and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine from the Nios, could be used for the higher variants. Hyundai may soon introduce an electric version of the Casper as well.
