Kabul. Hashmat Ghani, brother of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, has said that he has accepted the Taliban but does not support them. Ghani claimed that he “accepted” the Taliban to avoid instability in the country. Ghani said that he chose to stay in the country to help during the transition. However, Ghani also said that he does not support the Taliban. He said accepting the Taliban is a decision for the country to address the political and economic problems ahead. He said that many business leaders left the country after the Taliban took over.
Prominent businessman and leader of the nomadic Kochi population said, ‘I have accepted the Taliban but do not support them…’Support’ is a very strong word. What he will do after controlling is yet to be seen. When asked whether there would be violence at Kabul airport even after the departure of Western security forces, Ghani said- ‘I don’t think so. They (the Taliban) have a soft view of Afghan businesses. They say they will let women work. We hope he will do so.
Taliban can help in bringing economy back on track: Ghani
According to a report in NDTV, Hashmat said, “The educated classes should make up their mind to work with the Taliban to bring the economy back on track.” Hashmat said that ‘they (Taliban) know security. They can handle it very well, but a government is more than security, and this is where the educated class can help. I stopped so that I could persuade people from the educated and business community. The loss of business leaders is disastrous.
Significantly, some reports claimed that Hashmat Ghani had allegedly joined hands with the Taliban. According to reports, Hashmat Ghani has announced his support for the terrorist group in the presence of Taliban leader Khalil-ur-Rehman and religious leader Mufti Mahmood Zakir.
