New Delhi. Former Indian player and Mohun Bagan legend Bhabani Roy passed away in Kolkata after a prolonged illness. He was 75 years old. Roy was admitted to the city hospital a few days back. Roy represented the country in the 1969 Merdeka Cup and in 3 matches. At domestic level, he was part of the West Bengal team that won the Santosh Trophy in 1968 and 1971.
He played club football for Mohun Bagan from 1967. He captained the team in 1972, which was his last year with the team. Roy started his career with Bagan’s arch-rivals East Bengal in 1964.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) condoled the death of Roy. AIFF President Praful Patel said that it was sad to hear the news of Bhabani Roy’s demise. His contribution to sports in India can never be forgotten. I am very sad. He led the club to victory in the CFL in 1969 by scoring 5 goals. Mohun Bagan also won the IFA Shield that year. He helped the team win the Rovers Cup in 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1972
