New Delhi. Every effort is being made by the Delhi Government to promote electric vehicles. For charging vehicles, 100 charging stations are planned to be set up at public places across Delhi. A plan has also been prepared to add 20 more stations in the next phase.
In this episode, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot today laid the foundation stone for setting up the first public Electric Vehicle Charging Plaza at DTC Nehru Place Bus Terminal. He also inaugurated a public EV Charging Station at the site.
The construction of this vehicle charging plaza located at Nehru Place Bus Terminal will help in promoting e-vehicles. Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) has been allotted a 10×9 meter space at Nehru Place Bus Terminal as the first site to set up this EV charging plaza. The project will be completed within a month and will be opened for public use.
EV charging and battery swapping stations to be set up in seven DTC bus depots
CESL, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ministry of Power, will develop public EV charging stations and battery swapping stations at 7 DTC terminals and depots in collaboration with Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Each of the seven locations will have a total of six charging points, out of which 3 will be for two-wheelers and three-wheelers and 3 charging points can be used for charging four-wheelers. Once installed, these locations will also be available on Delhi government’s One Delhi app along with all the information including their real-time location and availability of charging points.

CESL and DTC had signed an agreement in this regard on September 7, 2021. Through this, the Delhi government is trying to reduce the carbon footprint while increasing the use of renewable energy through integration of solar rooftop and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Under this agreement, CESL will build charging units and related infrastructure within four months at DTC terminals located at Dwarka Sector-8, Dwarka Sector-2 Depot, Mehrauli Terminal, Nehru Place Terminal, Okhla CW-II, Sukhdev Vihar Depot and Kalkaji Depot. Make necessary arrangements for the purchase, installation, operation and maintenance of The fee for the use of space will be paid by CESL to DTC at the rate of Rs.1.00 per kWh on monthly basis. Initially, the contract period is 10 years.

Working on the agenda to develop EV ecosystem
Speaking on the occasion, Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said that we are continuously working on our agenda of developing innovative charging infrastructure and EV ecosystem in the national capital. We are delighted to collaborate with CESL which is known for its expertise in EV and charging infrastructure in the country.
More than 17,000 EV vehicles registered so far
Gehlot said that since the launch of the EV policy last year, we have seen a significant increase in the number of EVs plying on the roads of Delhi. More than 17,000 EVs have been registered so far. Apart from 100 public charging stations, we are also contemplating to add 20 more sites of the Transport Department in the next phase of installation, which will be set up through open tender. This will make it much easier for the residents of Delhi to adopt e-mobility along with e-means of public transport.
Target to complete the plan of charging infrastructure by December
Talking about this partnership, CESL MD and CEO Mahua Acharya said that this will strengthen the development of charging infrastructure in Delhi NCR, thereby motivating people to switch to electric vehicles. CESL is aiming to complete the project by the end of December 2021 as part of the Delhi government’s plan to accelerate the expansion of charging infrastructure.
