Thiruvananthapuram/Chennai. On Saturday, 20,487 new cases of Kovid-19 were reported in Kerala while 181 more patients died. With this, the total number of infected people in the state has increased to 43,55,191, out of which 22,844 people have lost their lives. In the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu also, 1,639 people have been confirmed infected during the last 24 hours and 27 people have lost their lives due to the epidemic. So far 26,32,231 people have come under the grip of Kovid-19 in the state and 35,146 patients have died.
According to a release issued by Kerala Health Minister Veena George, 26,155 patients became infection free on Saturday, including 41,00,355 patients who have defeated the epidemic so far. He said that during the last 24 hours, 1,34,861 samples were tested for Kovid-19, out of which 15.19 samples confirmed the infection.
According to George, Thrissur district had the maximum number of 2812 cases, while Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram had 2490 and 2217 confirmed cases respectively. He said that at present 2,31,792 patients are under treatment in the state. Of these, only 12.9 percent patients had to be admitted to hospitals.
At the same time, Tamil Nadu’s Health Department said in a bulletin issued in Chennai that during the last 24 hours, 1517 patients became infection free, including 25,80,686 patients who have defeated the epidemic. According to the bulletin, at present 16,399 patients are under treatment in the state. The department said that Coimbatore had the highest number of 224 new cases while Chennai, Erode, Chengalpet and Thanjavur had 170,151,120 and 117 confirmed cases respectively.
