New Delhi. The work of the Central Vista project is going on, but its grandeur can be gauged from the pictures coming out. Experts say that the work of this special project of the government is going on at a good pace. However, there was some delay in its progress due to the Coronavirus Pandemic epidemic. At the same time, it is expected that this will be the venue of the next Republic Day Parade.
Paths of red granite stones everywhere, bridges to cross the canal, beautiful stone benches at short distances and adequate lighting are giving glimpses of the new picture. The size of the sample stretch prepared so far is 190 meters long and 45 meters wide. Red granite stones brought from Rajasthan have been installed in it. Earlier there was gravel here. Here square and rectangle shaped stones have been applied neatly. The length of the walkway along the Rajpath is 4.6 metres.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Bimal Patel, Director, SCHP Design, Planning and Management Pvt Ltd, said, “The sample stretch is ready and we are happy with the way it has been prepared. Work on Central Vista Avenue is progressing at a good pace. The contractors are doing their best to cover the delay caused by the pandemic and the avenue is expected to be completed by the next Republic Day parade.

A Glimpse: What’s New
Fence and Lighting: Electric poles are being refurbished and re-installed. The stretch will have a total of 1058 electric poles. These are being installed keeping in mind the pedestrians, so that there is no problem in passing even in the dark. There will be some new and old pillars in the whole process. Of these, 137 will be installed on the Rajpath. Whereas, the rest will be installed in canals, parking, India Gate and other parts of the avenue.
Greenery: Green buffer zones have been prepared in the sample stretch. The lawn prepared on the Rajpath is 50 meters wide. Whereas, the green buffer adjacent to the canal is about 5 meters wide. The green zone between the canal and the parking lot will be about 30 meters wide. These areas will be up to 20 meters between the compound walls and the parking lot. There will be grass and some plants in these green zones, which will be planted at a fixed distance.
Tree: Jamun trees standing there for decades will remain there. However, out of these 1180 Rai-Jamun trees, 26 are being transplanted to create facilities like toilets. There will be a total of 3900 trees in the avenue, of which 40 are almost completed and will not be replaced.
Some stone benches are placed on the sample stretch. Their total number in the avenue will be 400. At least one bridge is ready over the canal. Whereas, a total of 16 such bridges are to be constructed. The work of underpasses for pedestrians is going on and four such underpasses will be prepared. Two of these will be on Rajpath-Janpath and two will be where Rajpath C meets Hexagon.
